Abstract
This paper presents the updating of European air quality concentration maps for the year 2007, including their exceedance probability and population exposure estimates, based on interpolation of annual statistics of the 2007 observational data as reported by EEA Member countries and stored in AirBase. The paper also includes an uncertainty analysis of the interpolated maps, building upon methodological developments of earlier reports on interpolated European air quality mapping from Horálek et al. (2007, 2008) and De Smet et al. (2009).
These maps, with their spatial exceedance and exposure estimates are intended to be used for the assessment of European air quality by the EEA and its ETC/ACC, and for (interactive visual) public information purposes through the EEA website.
The two main pollutants of interest, PM10 and ozone, have been considered as relevant for an annual update and are dealt with in this paper.
